AT&T didn't provide any details of any new technology, but it did say that "3G is expected to be available in the first half of this year, and the next 2-3 years will be dominated by LTE-Advanced."

AT&T does have a new "5G" logo going out on its T-Mobile 4G LTE towers this week. The logo will be on a new "5G+" that's going to be available to all T-Mobile customers this year, but we expect to see some more "5G+" on T-Mobile first in the first half of 2014.

We know AT&T isn't going to be giving the word "2G" out, but AT&T did provide some hints about the rumored 5G smartphone lineup. AT&T has announced a new phone called an "Explanation 5" from a new company called AT&T Mobile. The device will have all 5G capabilities, including 4x4 MIMO and 1:8:1 AM. The 2G phones will come in the "3G" and "4G" versions.

We have to assume that AT&T will be working with Samsung to do the same thing in the future. AT&T will have to be a little bit more transparent on that, and that will be another interesting question.

AT&T also told us that AT&T will be adding a new 4G LTE antenna and making it available for testing out. We think that this is a much more interesting and interesting design choice for AT&T. AT&T is in good hands with Samsung over LTE, as well as Sprint in the U.S., but they have the advantage of being mobile carriers that are willing to be open to new ideas. It's possible that they could be even more open to this new "5G+" design, where 4G LTE would be a better option, and AT&T is offering 3G as well.

AT&T will likely be announcing more features and updates about "5G" in coming weeks, so watch your back.
