In the process, these four companies could help the military
In the process, these four companies could help the military in the acquisition of future, more expensive space hardware. The Air Force also may be able to help to fund some of the more important space hardware contracts that have been awarded to SpaceX, Boeing and SpaceX.
The military's Space Launch System (SLS) program is an important element of the US government's plan to expand the range of its rocket, launching vehicles, and crewed missions to the ISS.
It will probably be very interesting to see what the Air Force does with this program, to see how the space agency handles its obligations under the program, and what kind of agreements it will have with companies looking to develop their own satellite systems. But for now, we have little indication of what the Air Force will do with this $1.2 billion in awards.
The Air Force's solicitation is not the only solicitation the Air Force has conducted for a lot of space technology. Last month, the Obama administration raised $4.5 billion for the Space Launch System program, and the Pentagon has also been considering the possibility of funding multiple space satellites. That is far from unprecedented, and the Air Force will need to do an additional $1.5 billion to make up for its budget shortfall.
It is also possible that the Air Force, without these new contracts, could have its hands full buying more space equipment.
To conclude, I would like to thank the US Congress for the opportunity to provide the best possible service for all of us.
