The airport also confirmed that a passenger named Tawad (seen at right), who had apparently been hospitalized in the JFK area, was able to survive. According to the airport, he was in stable condition at JFK's John F. Kennedy International Airport, where he received treatment for a possible heart attack.
The flight was taking off in Dubai at 9:55 this morning, with the rest of the passengers expected to arrive later in the afternoon.
The aircraft flew over the Indian Ocean, arriving at JFK and heading to Boston on a scheduled flight from Denver, and taking off from JFK's JFK International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. The flight departed in New York at 9:57pm, followed by Boston, New York City and Los Angeles.
The airport confirmed that two of the 11 passengers (Tawad and Tawad's father) were still in a stable condition. The other passenger, Abdul Rahman (pictured at right), who is also in a stable condition, was taken off the plane, and taken to Boston Medical Center.
An investigation by New York's New York Times’s Flight 818 revealed that passengers on board had been sick with the flu for weeks. The airline has not confirmed the cause of the flu.
According to the New York Times, the first passengers to succumb to the illness, who had been sitting in an airplane for the past 11 weeks, had been staying close to the airport.
The flu virus has had an immediate impact on Americans' lives, causing nearly 4,000 deaths worldwide from flu-like symptoms.
Many people who contracted the flu will eventually die. A few hours after the first flu strain was identified, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had already approved another strain of the flu vaccine, Toxoplasma gondii, at the same time.
To date, a total of 1,946 people have died from the flu, according to the CDC.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that at least 2,400 people will die from the virus by 2020, according to the CDC.
The United States Food and Drug Administration is currently reviewing the safety of the vaccine, along with a number of other medications for the sick in the weeks to come.
