But the court ruled that the Uber lawyers are not required to tell the public what they know about the company.

According to the press release from the judge, Uber "has not been found to have any violations of applicable laws or regulations under California law and the attorney general's office is not permitted to file any new claims. In its position statement, Uber also indicated that it is reviewing claims made by its employees."

The attorney general's office has no information about the potential conflict of interest.

But the attorney general's office says: "The attorney general's office is aware of the Uber attorney general's decision to not press charges against the company.

We do not know when Uber, in response to our request, asked to intervene, but we did receive a formal motion from Uber's attorneys in response to Uber's request that Uber's attorneys not intervene.

"As of Wednesday, February 7, 2018, (the Attorney General's Office) received a formal request to intervene from Uber's attorneys to comment with us on Uber's proposed changes to its license procedures.

"As of Wednesday, February 7, 2018, Uber will continue to use the information provided by our attorneys at a meeting of Uber Drivers to make the best decisions possible regarding the safety of our drivers. Uber will continue to cooperate fully with the Attorney General's Office in its review of the situation, and we will continue to provide full and accurate information on Uber's actions.
