Discovery News and its parent company, Vizio, were both caught on film. The revelation that this type of data is being sent to Vizio's TV is a big blow for Vizio that was previously reported to be the subject of a lawsuit.
In a statement, Vizio CEO Kazuhiro Nishi had this to say:
We have always maintained that the privacy of our customers and the privacy of our customers is our top priority. Now we are fully aware of the discovery and need to address it. We are working closely with the DOJ to make sure that we are complying with the new data privacy rules. The DOJ's Office of Compliance will continue to monitor this matter.
Meanwhile, Amazon said that it would be implementing a new program in the coming weeks to provide customers with more personalized service, including the ability to view the Amazon Alexa video library, which was previously available only through the Amazon Echo.
