This design is unique, in that only a portion of the cranes sit on top of the tower. The cranes can be mounted in different configurations depending on what they are doing.

Energy Vault uses a "bead" system, a set of flat plastic bricks with each brick in turn mounted at a different height. The brick bricks are pushed at an angle so that they don't fall out, increasing the amount of power that can be stored.
