SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket made its first flight on Sept.
SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket made its first flight on Sept. 17 and flew for nearly a week before finally launching from Cape Canaveral. At this point, SpaceX is still in preparation for the next Falcon 9 launch on Oct. 14. If the company succeeds in its goal of carrying people into space, it could make its first launch in a new rocket in six to nine months.
SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket is a solid-fuel rocket that will go through three rocket stages, delivering a cargo of 3.9 tons of cargo. (The company has not announced that it is ramping up its Falcon Heavy rockets, which will be available early next year.) The company has not said how long it will be preparing for its next launch, though it expects to launch on schedule by mid-2014.
SpaceX is also developing a new system for getting astronauts to the International Space Station, which will employ 3,000 people for a total of about 18 months. Crewmembers will be able to fly on the station for an average of four days.
SpaceX has also announced that it plans to launch two new rockets to Mars starting next year and possibly another in 2014. Two of the space boosters built in the last nine months and one will be installed in the Red Planet in 2014. The company has also announced that it will begin using a reusable rocket for its Mars rover Curiosity.
If SpaceX is successful in its goal of carrying humans into space, it could pave the way for a new line of space launches in the years ahead.
SpaceX's Atlas V rocket is the world's largest rocket. The Atlas V and Delta IV rocket are similar in size and mass and weigh just under 1,200 pounds when they came out of the factory.
The Atlas V is a fully reusable rocket and will fly for up to nine months on its own.
SpaceX has previously announced that the company will bring its Atlas V and Falcon Heavy to space in the near future. This will allow it to carry all of its crew aboard to provide a new, more efficient method of transporting large payloads. The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995
