The FBI was not able to immediately confirm whether Chosun Expo was the source of the information. The company is based in Hong Kong, but recently became an international center for information security and security.

According to the indictment, Park was working for South Korea's central government of the People's Republic of Korea, or DMK. The indictment alleges that Park was a member of a large corporate committee with a high-level presence within North Korea. The group includes a North Korean official, another North Korean diplomat, and a South Korean government official.

In 2014, Park reportedly attended a summit in Seoul with the North Korean government's top cyber security officials and several other North Korean officials. The US Senate Intelligence Committee recently asked North Korea to stop providing North Korea with funds and assistance to fight the cyber attack that resulted in Sony's loss. That report has also been reported at various points by the Washington Post , US news outlets, and CNN.

In March, the FBI announced that they were investigating whether North Korea also stole information from Sony Pictures and Sony Entertainment by exploiting a flaw in the software that allowed Sony to steal information from its customers' Sony smartphones. The FBI also confirmed that they had discovered a flaw in Sony's software that allowed Sony to steal information from its smartphone users' smartphones.

On May 25, a US federal grand jury indicted two US nationals from North Korea on charges of conspiring to commit wire fraud. The grand jury was expected to begin their investigation in early October but then postponed it in favor of a hearing on January 20. The grand jury was scheduled to be held on July 4.

On June 8, the indictment was handed down in federal court in Virginia, and the indictment is currently being appealed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. That hearing is expected to resume soon.
