"The number of cases of alcohol related infections among the community is decreasing but is increasing and continues to increase. The number of alcohol-specific infections has increased as well but appears to be increasing. In some case, alcohol ingestion may be the cause for the increasing mortality rate due to the increased susceptibility of these organisms to disease."

The researchers also note that these patients—who had also previously been exposed to alcohol during the study—may develop a disease called Streptococcus spp. that could lead to infection.

"These patients may have a better and more rapid response to the effects of alcohol than the healthy individuals were before alcohol was prescribed to them. The fact that these patients were treated as adults suggests that this may represent an effective treatment for these patients," they explain.

The research was funded by the Australian Ministry of Health and was conducted in collaboration with Australian University of Technology's New South Wales Institute for Microbiology, with support from the Australian Department of Health.

On October 28, the social network posted a video of a woman trying to "get her hair done" using a piece of toilet paper. The video ends with a man taking the woman by the face during a "girly" exchange.

The video, which has been viewed more than 1.7 million times, was posted by one of the "Oatmeal" members in the US and one person in Canada.

The "Oatmeal" leader, Mike Cavanagh, said: "These videos, if you do not pay attention to your own self-image, they are incredibly offensive and disgusting.

"I have yet to see a video of a video on The Oatmeal that is quite disgusting and offensive. I have no idea why people would do that to one of my very loyal fans.

"I am very disappointed that such a video was posted and I hope the community will stand by our members and stand against such offensive content."

The social networking site has also been criticised for its use of "garbage" which it says is a "sex toy".

Earlier this month, it was reported that one of its members, David Cavanagh, had taken the man by the face and put his face on his crotch
