The removal of the offending title as well as the game's original description indicate that we've been looking for additional ways to make Rape Day more accessible, and we've heard that we can do more. This is something we're continually looking to address. Please take the time to consider this situation. Thank you for your input and support.

The post, which was accompanied by a new announcement, also includes an update to the game's technical specs, the release date and a discussion about how "Rape Day's release date is based on Steam's current system requirements." In the announcement, Valve's technical director for games said that the game could be "as much as six months old."

That announcement came after a lengthy discussion on the Steam community forums, which were closed to all but the very few players who had played the game for as long as Valve had. Steam's official FAQ states in part:

"If you have played and/or want to play a game, you can play for ten hours per day, and then you can play the game for the next five days, or the next week, or the next month, or the next month. If you are in a group, or have friends or family at work, or have a lot of games on Steam, then the last 10 hours of the day are for you."

The official FAQ also says that the game could also be sold in a "limited distribution format" for "buy for free" if Steam allowed the option. In other words, if Steam allowed a game to be sold for free on Steam, it would be "substantial," and thus not "substantially different from what you may buy with your own money."

This has led to speculation that Rape Day would not be out for long while it was still in development. Earlier this week, a developer with a game titled "Scream-Funk: The New Werewolf," which was shown in the game's official Steam page, said that it was in development for "about six months while there is talk about releasing it for free." The game's developer, Mike Ziegler, said he would not comment further.
